5 Questions to Ask Before Buying a Beef Box from A&K Land & Cattle

Buying beef directly from a farm isn’t just about quality—it’s about trust. When you choose to buy from A&K Land & Cattle, you're supporting a family-run operation committed to transparency, animal welfare, and premium dry-aged beef raised right here in the Oklahoma Panhandle.

But before buying from any farm, it’s smart to ask a few key questions. Here are five you should always ask—along with how we answer them at A&K.

1. Where and how are the cattle raised?
The way cattle are raised directly impacts the flavor, nutrition, and ethics of the meat you buy. Ask the farm about their environment, feeding practices, and handling.

At A&K Land & Cattle, all of our cattle are Sim-Angus, raised in a low- to no-stress environment. We grow and ferment our own feed—Cow Caviar, a mix of triticale and forage sorghum silage—right on the farm to give our cattle consistent, nutrient-dense nutrition from start to finish. We never outsource the care or finish of our cattle.

2. How is the beef processed?
Not all beef processing is created equal. Look for USDA inspection, aging methods, and clear labeling practices.

Our beef is USDA inspected and dry-aged for 14 days to enhance flavor and tenderness. After aging, each cut is hand-trimmed, vacuum-sealed, and labeled for easy storage and use. All processing takes place at Hat Creek Butchery in Plains, Kansas, our trusted USDA facility partner.

3. What cuts will I get, and how much beef is included?
Whether you're buying a one-time beef box or a monthly subscription, you should know what you’re getting. Look for clear cut lists and serving size guidance.

Each of our beef boxes includes a curated selection of premium and everyday cuts—Ribeyes, Okie Strips (our local take on the KC/NY Strip), Filets, Sirloins, and more. We also offer ground beef-only boxes and rotating seasonal boxes. Every product is clearly listed on our website with estimated weights and quantities so you know exactly what’s arriving at your door.

4. How does shipping work?
Ask how the farm handles logistics—especially if you're ordering frozen beef. Is it shipped with dry ice? Can it ship to homes and businesses?

We ship orders every Tuesday and Wednesday via FedEx Express in insulated 16x16x16 boxes with dry ice, ensuring your beef stays frozen and arrives safely. Orders over $150 ship free, and we deliver to both residential and business addresses. Your beef will typically arrive within two days of shipment.

5. Who's behind the beef?
You're not just buying food—you’re buying from a farm family. Make sure you know who they are and what they stand for.

At A&K Land & Cattle, we’re proud of our roots in the Oklahoma Panhandle. Our farm is built on hard work, heritage, and a commitment to doing things right—from the cattle we raise to the families we serve. We believe in transparency and showing exactly where your beef comes from.

Final Thoughts: Know Before You Buy
Buying beef direct from a farm like ours gives you a level of quality—and peace of mind—you just can’t find in the grocery store. Ask the right questions, get honest answers, and choose a farm that aligns with your values.
